Player Tribute

Ted Cox

Ted Cox of Midwest City, Okla., made an instant impact on the major leagues upon his debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1977. He collected six consecutive hits to start his big league career - a record which has never been matched before or since. He went 4-for-4 against the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 18 in his debut, and followed up with two more hits the next game against the New York Yankees before grounding out to first baseman Chris Chambliss to end the streak. Cox played five years in the majors for Boston, Cleveland, Seattle, and Toronto, hitting .245 in 272 games. The former 1977 Minor League Player of the Year at Pawtucket still lives in Midwest City, where he's involved heavily with Little League baseball.
